ClearSkies - C-19 cover
This insurance can cover you to travel provided the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is not advising against all, or all but essential travel to your destination and it is not on the red list.
All customers must follow the advice of the FCDO at the time of travel and for the duration of their trip. This includes returning to the UK if the FCDO changes their travel advice based on the risks presented at the time. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice
These policies provide cover for:
- Emergency medical treatment and repatriation if you contract COVID-19 whilst abroad.
- Cancellation if you are unable to travel because you contracted COVID-19 within 14 days of your departure date. This includes a positive pre-travel test. (Policies purchased on or after 21 August 2020 only).
There is no cover under any other section of the policy for anything caused by or relating to Covid-19/Coronavirus/SARs-COV-2, any mutation of Covid-19/Coronavirus/SARs-COV-2 or any pandemic or fear or threat of any of the above.
These policies will not provide any cover if:
- You are breaking regional or national lock down laws.
- You travel to a destination where the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is advising against all, or all but essential travel.
- You travel to a destination which is on the government’s red list.
These policies do not provide cover for:
- Cancellation caused by a change to; FCDO travel advice, a country’s traffic light classification, or the rules on international travel, due to COVID-19 or any other pandemic.
- Cancellation if your travel provider cancels or postpones your trip.
- Cancellation if you have to self-isolated due to COVID-19
- Denied entry to the country or territory you are travelling to.
- Having to quarantine or isolate when you return to the UK (this includes hotel quarantine costs).
- Having to purchase Covid-19 tests.

What are the age restrictions?
- Single Trip policies up to 75 years old
- Multi Trip policies up to 65 years old
- Backpacker policies up to 45 years old
- What cover for Covid and travel restrictions?
- Emergency medical treatment and repatriation if you contract COVID-19 whilst abroad
- Cancellation if you are unable to travel because you contracted COVID-19 within 14 days of your departure date. This includes a positive pre-travel test. (Policies purchased on or after 21 August 2020 only)
- No cover under the policy if the FCDO warns against travelling either to your destination, or travelling at all or your destination is on the red list
- Who can be on my policy?
- An individual
- Couple - 2 people married or common law living at same address
- Family or single parent family can include children under 18 and living at same address
- A group of unrelated people
- Can I ski with this policy?
- Yes, if you choose the Wintersports option, which provides cover for Emergency medical and also include Ski Pack and Piste Closure. If you only choose Category C which also includes wintersports, this will only cover emergency medical whilst partaking
- No cover for ski racing or any competitive wintersports
- 24 days cover in total on a multi trip policy
- On piste only. If you want off piste with a guide/instructor in recognised resort area, you must also choose Category C for additional emergency medical cover for that activity
- If skiing in France and Switzerland (border on the mountain), you must choose Switzerland and France as your destinations, as they fall under different levels of cover. However if you are flying into Switzerland but holidaying in France, you only need to choose France as your destination
- Should wear helmet
- Can I sail with this policy?
- Yes, there is cover for "inshore" sailing included for all policies, which means up to 12 miles from shore only - not crewing and no cover for swimming off the boat in open water without a qualified supervisor
- For crewing yachts and swimming off the boat in open water, please make sure you choose Activity list "Category C" during the purchase process
- For yachting/sailing offshore (further than 12 miles from shore) in European waters choose Activity List "Category C" during the purchase process
- Can I purchase a policy whilst already overseas?
- When you go to obtain quote, you will see a link to another provider for this cover
- What about pre-existing medical conditions?
- If you answer "Yes" to any of the medical questions asked, then you must complete the screening process. There is no option to buy a policy just having that condition(s) excluded
- There is no cover if you have a terminal illness with less than 6 months
- Any change in your health prior to your trip, you must inform insurers
- The opposite applies for ClearSkies backpacker policies. There is no cover for any pre-existing conditions at all and no means to screen them, but you can buy a policy with those excluded
- Backpacker policies
- Policies up to 12 months, for 17 to 45 yars old, must have spent more than 6 months in the UK prior to the start date of the policy and must have a return trip booked
- This policy is not for full time seasonal work, although there is cover for incidental work* during your travels - Manual Work (ground level only, including the use of light handheld machinery**).
*"Incidental work" means it doesn't take up any more than 50% of your days overseas.
**choose Activities Category C - Make sure you check the extra activity categories during the purchasing process, to check you have cover all the activities you plan to do
- Policy will become void if you return home early
- Do the Sports and Activities under Category's A, B and C, include Personal Liability and Personal Accident?
- There is no Personal Liability or Personal Accident cover whilst participating in any Sports & Hazardous activities under Category's A, B & C
- If you have chosen and paid for the "Wintersports" extension, there is Personal Liability and Personal Accident cover for the following wintersports activities:
- On-piste skiing
- Snowboarding
- Ice skating
- Big foot skiing
- Cross country/Nordic skiing
- Dry slope skiing
- Sledging
- Snow kiting
- Snow shoeing
Please note, there is no Personal Liability or Personal Accident for the Wintersports activities listed under Category's A, B or C, just those listed above.
This is for leisure purposes only, and not participating in any timed, competitive, or off-piste/specialist ski/snowboard activities.
You may be able to obtain Liability Insurance for these activities under the all risks extension of a home contents policy. We suggest you check with your Broker or Insurance provider
- What if my trip is one way or I don't have a return date?
- All our policies have the requirement for a pre-booked return journey. If you don't have a return date please contact ClearSkies and we can refer to our insurers to see if we're able to help
- Is there cover if my course gets cancelled or cut short?
- No, there is no cover for tuition or course fees under these policies
- Is there cover for childcare or help at home if I am repatriated after an incident on the trip and are hospitalised or required to stay in bed when I return?
- Yes, under the Emergency Medical Expenses section of the policy there is cover for each full 24hrs for the necessary costs of employing a home help or registered nanny to assist with your recovery.
- What is the sums insured limit if I were to damage my rented accommodation on my trip?
- Under ClearSkies policies, there is up to £100,000 cover for Silver, Gold and Platinum, this is the same for ClearSkies Plus Gold and Platinum policies. There is no cover for Rented Accommodation costs for ClearSkies Plus Silver policy.

All policies provide cover for:

Gold and Platinum policies also cover:
- Emergency medical treatment and repatriation if you contract COVID-19 whilst abroad.
- Cancellation if you are unable to travel because you contracted COVID-19 within 14 days of your departure date. (This includes a positive pre-travel test).
- Cancellation cover if you, anyone insured on the policy, or a travel companion catch COVID-19 within 14 days of your trip starting.
- Cancellation cover if you, anyone insured on the policy, or a household member have to self-isolate at home due to COVID-19.
- Cancellation cover if you, anyone insured on the policy, or a family member are hospitalised or die due to COVID-19.
- Cover to abandon your trip and make a claim to recoup the cost if you, or anyone insured on the policy, were denied boarding by your transport provider on the outward journey of your trip due to having or being suspected of having an infectious disease including COVID-19.
Our policies do not provide cover for:
- Cancellation caused by a change to; FCDO travel advice, a country’s traffic light classification, or the rules on international travel, due to COVID-19 or any other pandemic.
- Cancellation if your travel provider cancels or postpones your trip.
- Cancellation if you contract COVID-19 (unless you have a Covid+ or Platinum Covid+ policy).

- Up to 10 in a group (unrelated)
- Covering all travellers on the same policy means that you will all have cancellation cover in place if you need to cancel the holiday due to one person's pre-existing medical conditions.

Can I ski with this policy?
- Yes, if you choose the Wintersports option, which provides cover for Emergency medical and also include Ski Pack and Piste Closure. If you only choose Category C which also includes wintersports, this will only cover emergency medical whilst partaking
